Run your home like you would a small business and treat it with the same seriousness. — Anthea Turner
With the current pace of modern life, it can often seem that there is an endless amount of personal administration and organisation that needs to be done at home! It is common for this to be overwhelming, take up valuable family time and be put off to another day. But have you considered that there are small businesses out there that specialise in doing those things that you struggle to find the time and energy for? Here are just a few examples of lifestyle activities that you can outsource today for a Better Organised home.
Does the thought of clothes shopping or making the most of your existing wardrobe stress you out? If you struggle to find the time or simply don’t enjoy shopping, an image consultant can step in to help. Karen Degg is based in Central Scotland and helps women to feel special and confident in their style. She explains, ‘I start by discussing your needs and preferences and advising on what will make you look and feel good. I can then source clothing and accessories to suit your body shape whilst reflecting your lifestyle and personality. We can go shopping together or I can prepare an online shopping list for you to order from, making the experience easy, fun, hassle-free and within your budget.’
2. Holiday Planning
Do you like the sound of having your own personal travel specialist? Instead of you spending precious time scouring the internet or sitting in a high street store, Julie Batchelor from Brilliant Travel can do all the hard work of finding your perfect holiday and create a bespoke package tailored to your requirements. She says, ‘I have access to many tour operators and whether you’re looking for a city break, family holiday in the Med, a once-in-a-lifetime cruise, activity holiday or honeymoon, I‘ll find your dream holiday at a competitive price’.
3. Decluttering & Organising(of course!)
If you want to bring a comfortable level of order to your home or office, professional declutterers & organisers up and down the country are on hand to support you. They will guide you towards an enduring sense of balance and productivity so that you can focus your time and attention on the things that are most important to you. As the founder of Better Organised, I can help you determine where to start and then give you hands-on assistance to declutter and organise your belongings. From paperwork to kitchens, studies, garages and everything in between, I’ll source appropriate storage solutions and give you lots of tips to avoid a build-up of clutter. I’ll even take decluttered items to the charity shop, clothing bank or recycling centre at the end of a session.
4. Meal Planning & Preparation
If you want to enjoy fresh, wholesome food but lack the time or energy to plan and shop for meals to be enjoyed at home, it might be time to consider using a meal collection service. Personal trainer Mark Tiffney from Dynamic Core Studios in Glasgow identified that his clients wanted healthy food but that busy lifestyles made organising and preparing nutritious meals increasingly difficult for them.
He teamed up with meal prep company Skrann73 and his gym now acts as a pick up point for their tailored meals that are full of nutrition and natural goodness.
Mark says “with time at a premium and lifestyles becoming more stressful than ever, it is important to focus the time you do have on the elements that will give you the biggest wins. If that means outsourcing some elements, the value of the time and effort saved will easily outweigh the costs. Whether that be hiring a coach, following a course or investing in a meal prep company to do the work for you, the time saved can then be invested in enriching your life in other areas”.
For further information on how to prioritise your approach, Mark has created an article called ‘Eating Healthy With a Busy Lifestyle’ where you can find further ideas and options to make your life easier when it comes to your nutritional approach.
5. Garden Maintenance
Gardens can easily be neglected as they slip down our list of priorities, particularly at this time of year in the Scottish climate. Enlisting the help of a local gardening expert can free up some of your time and energy to spend on activities that you love. You can then simply reap the rewards of their efforts come springtime when it is time to enjoy your garden once again.
Dawn Eldridge from Dawn’s Lawns in Glasgow says ‘I can remove this chore from your ‘to-do’ list, enabling you to spend valuable time enjoying your garden – playing games with your children or even having a barbecue when the weather allows’. Sounds good!
